An access log is a detailed list of all the files which were accessed by the visitors of a certain website. Every single file that was requested for some reason will be listed, so if you have only one page with 3 embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log shall contain a total of six entries - one for any of the 6 files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log typically offers the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, web browser and IP address. In some cases you can also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your website. The info which an access log file features is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a desktop machine and used to write reports on the overall performance of a site, in addition to the web statistics which your hosting server may have produced.
